Every Group Member should strive to be able to create and characterize an 18 Channel Modulator from a slab of X-Cut Lithium Niobate. As such each should strive to become proficient at the following:
Laser safety
Aluminum Deposition in the E-Beam Evaporator
Aluminum Deposition in the Thermal Evaporator
Silicon Nitride deposition in PECVD1 (if continued)
SiO2 deposition in PECVD2
Pattern writing in the Heidelberg
Using etchants and acids
Waveguide creation through Proton Exchange and Annealing
Using the Diesaw
Using the Polisher
Waveguide measurement in the Metricon
Wirebonding and packaging a device
Using the Network Analyzer for Impedance matching the breakout board
Be able to effectively Prism Couple
Characterization of devices using the Characterization Apparatus
Also strive for a theoretical understanding of the modulators produced. Please read through everything about leaky mode modulators on our wiki's “Publications” page.
