RGB Vector Drawing in Hand Rastered guy in bath robe adjusting radio off screen Occlusion proof Torque Tests Poisson Spot Phase Masks

Schedule through December

SPECIFIC

Kevin (RGB) Test * color function using the DAC and Arduino controlling the galvos

  • Verify trapping with violet
  • Build shield with 3 DAC's
  • Create Lens setup that puts out a collimated large diameter beam
  • Get stepper motor from Joel to move focusing lens back and forth
  • Build 40 w laser gun to melt all of Jacob's nerf darts
  • Get dichros for the laser setup including one for the violet
  • Make filter for the camera to filter violet
  • Take pictures of rainbows

Joel (vector)

  • Determine Specifications for New Brushless Geared Down motors
  • Determine Specs for encoders
  • Purchase Brushless Motors - These are looking expensive
  • Purchase Encoders - these are also looking expensive
  • Develop algorithm for stepping
  • Code new algorithm into 3 motor system on arduino or other platform
  • Modify chassis for new motor setup
  • Attatch motors to chassis
  • Add mirrors/mounts and lens to the chassis
  • Add homing/oversteping switches
  • Set up/align new chassis in Laser room
  • Test the setup for particle holding
  • Adjust MatLab code for new system to obtain butterfly coordinates
  • Get Butterfly coordinates
  • draw the flutterby
  • cross fingers

Jacob (occlusion)

  • Draft design for R2D2 optics and 3d printed parts
  • complete all necessary training
  • Pictures in hand
  • Raster
  • Automate
  • Test masks (picture/record)

Jeremy (poisson???)

Andy (raster)

  • Complete the picture to array matlab script
  • Test using continuous motor motion with blinking light instead of start/stop motor motion → if better, use this instead
  • Work with group on aligning everything (lasers and particles)
  • Take photo of raster → perhaps do through multiple RAWs and overlay, or if moving fast enough use long exposure

Might need to do:

  • Rework array indexing protocol in case we have to use one dimensional array vs two dimensional

If I fail:

  • Re-evaluate a way to get the raster working → perhaps through non-array implementation

Erich (torque)

Vector butterfly drawing:

  • fix the bug, so the whole butterfly will draw
  • draw butterfly
  • get an image or video
  • get a measurement of how fast it is moving

That's probably the minimum. The following would be very nice to have for the paper (I think):

  • make new vector coordinates (closer spacing, so no interpolation needs to be done in drawing)
  • see how fast the butterfly can be drawn
  • get an image or video
  • tweak optics some more and see if hold / speed can be improved (clean optics, try off-centering one of the lenses again)

Torque test

  • Repeat circular torque test as before
  • find a max speed
  • Repeat linear torque test as before
  • find a max speed
  • tweak optics some more and see if hold / speed can be improved (clean optics, try off-centering one of the lenses again)
  • get video of max speed

Daphne (Phase Masks)

Get autonomous information for the effect of:

  1. air isolation
  2. laser power
  3. lens numerical aperture
  4. bouncing off a mirror (once a good mirror is identified and mounted on a galvo continue the rest of the tests as torque tests rather than time tests)
  5. lens quality (spherical vs. asphere)
  6. laser wavelength
  7. laser aperture (use circle, star, square, spiral apertures)
  8. particle type
  9. particle size

Additional Projects:

  1. 3D profile of different apertures around focal point
  2. Probability distribution of cloud of particles around focal point for different apertures

Create R2D2 that can make aerial princess Leia image and take a photo

I WANT THESE IMAGES BEFORE ANY MAJOR CHANGES with the box design: A hand holding a butterfly, byu Y and the circular repulsor thingy from iron man's gauntlet.
