  • The particle must be visible

Extra Points

  • Cheap (up to 5 points)
  • Easy to build (up to 5 points)
  • Automatically detect particles (up to 5 points)
  • Easy to swap lasers (up to 5 points)
  • Easy to swap lenses (up to 5 points)
  • Easy to swap particle type (up to 5 points)
  • Able to pull a vacuum (up to 5 points)
  • Able to analyze trap (up to 10 points)
  • Controllable by a microcontroller (up to 2 points)

You can use anything in our labs, and can order more parts up to $100.

Starter kits with a few basic items are in the main lab on the table. They are not all the same, and the parts have not been tested. Two of the lasers have cylindrical lenses attached to them. You will have to swap the lens with a spherical one if you want to test it. The lenses provided may or may not have the diameter and focal lengths you want.

Prototypes must be finished by 3:00 PM Thursday May 14. Prototypes will then be evaluated. Each contestant should take notes on what each other contestant did. A second competition will be held the following week.
