To Do List
  • Try to re-wire bond the good transducers to be able to test them
  • Do another batch of Amplifiers
  • Put gratings onto the samples with 8 runs of 11:20 minutes
  • Heidelberg power for Thick sample should be between 34 and 38 % with 10mW

Diamond Lapping Films

I was given the assignment to find new diamond lapping films (polishing pads) for the grey room. This turned out to be a lot more difficult than I was expecting it to be.

Things to look for
  • PSA backing is the way that the pads stick to the pad so it is a must.
  • You want to get something in the 660 series because these are the diamond pads
  • The polishing wheel that we have now is an 8-inch diameter so you should be looking for something like that
  • The best price I found in December of 2016 was $168 for 5 pads so use that as a judgment bar
  • I looked at quite a few websites. I looked directly at 3M and EBAY and other places but eventually ultra-tec who made our actual wheel had the best price. Dr. Smalley and I called them up and they were very informative and helpful. That is my advice. They sent us a catalog which had everything we needed and more on it.
  • At the time we also bought a new grinding wheel. It is a Diamond, 1200, 8-inch diameter from sierragems.net. https://www.sierragems.net/proddetail.asp?prod=1200x8-Lap is the link for them that I found
Pulse Test

These are the latest pictures from my second device.

My analysis is that even though the aluminum was darker than we wanted, I still have trausducers that might work from this batch. I needed to put the power on the wirebonder up to 350 to make it stick to the aluminum but I think that I should be able to get results out.
One caviot is that I will need to re-wire bond before I test because some damage happened to the pcb, and of course it happened to the most promising of the transducers.

This device consists of waveguides throughout the thick sample that eventually lead into AO transducers at the end. Test 1 has waveguides of channel width 90um and spacing of 10 um; The AO region is 1mm long with an aperture of 100um and finger width and spacing of 2.5um. Alignment is messed up in picture but will be fixed using the alignment mark when actually printing on the Heidelberg

Thick Sample Dosage Test With 10mW, I got that everything from about 18-22% worked really well and I could not distinguish the difference. Any of those are probably great dosages for the thick samples.
