Proof of Waveguide Capability

The Test Was a success! Waveguides were created that were S shaped with 1500um on either end that was straight, and a cubic section in the center that raised the line 500um. The picture below proves that the waveguide is working. The top dot is the light guided in the waveguide and the bottom dot is unguided.

The following pictures are of the structure itself. The first shows the shape of the waveguide. It is located in-between the two horizontal lines. The next one gives a sense of the depth of the waveguide in the substrate. the final two show the increasing width of the waveguides. The successful test was on the widest waveguide.

Polarisation

The Waveguide only carries one polarization, TE. Independant of the illumination orientation the output light of the waveguide is TE. When TM light is used to illuminate the sample the output light is visually dimmer. See Below:
